During this session, Nancy Durben, physical therapist with Oregon Health Sciences University HTC, and Dr. Kim Mauer, physician and pain specialist also with Oregon Health Sciences University Comprehensive Pain Center, will discuss how to move away from fear and shame in pain management. Dr. Kim Mauer will discuss a range of options for pain management, including medication, procedures with smaller needles, and integrated therapies that have been shown to be effective. Dr. Mauer will also share her approach to normalizing discussions about opioids and highlight the role of suboxone in the pain management toolkit. Nancy Durben will present current research and guidelines for physical therapy in pain management for bleeding disorders, and address how a physical therapist can help bring back the joy of movement to patients, even in the context of chronic pain. She will also talk about how certain language and wording can be integrated into patient visits for supportive discussions about pain and pain management. All HTC disciplines are welcome and encouraged to join us for this session! Note: This is the second webinar in our 3-part series on pain and pain management running June-August 2024.
